Memory Boxes....they are simple!

I thought I would show you one of my favorite products and how simple it is to put together.  I just love the memory boxes, they are so versatile and make a great show piece or a sensational gift.

Firstly when I start to make a memory box, I fold the sides up (don't worry if they don't stay attached!) sellotape the corners and sides and run a bead of PVA glue around the inside edge.  (a little hint here: I put down wax proof paper underneath, so if any glue seeps through, it won't stick!)

Once the outside edge is complete, I assemble the two short and two long inside strips and sit them in the slots.  Sellotape on the corners help them stay in place while you run a bead of glue around the outside edge...

Once it's at this stage, I like to sit something on top to stop it from warping while it dries...a cutting mat and a can of soup works wonderfully!

Once dry, paint the inside edges, cover your frame and put it all together....so simple!

Here is one I put together using the large 3D butterfly...

The edges of the memory box are exactly 1", so cut some strips and adhere - I'm a little impatient and want an instant fix, so it's double sided tape for me (a wet glue is also a good option).  The front of the frame has been covered with 1" squares and sanded for that slightly rough look (make the squares just bigger than 1" and sand them back to the edge for that seamless look).  The 3D butterfly base has been covered with paper, sanded and inked, while the wings were painted and put through the cuttle bug.  I love the effect of white ink stamped on a transparency, and this works beautifully as the middle of the wings.

I hope my little tutorial gives you some insight into how easy these gorgeous projects are to put together!

Twinchie Overlay, with a hint of Tree

I had so much fun creating this Twinchie Overlay!  It's a great project to use up little pieces of patterned paper and lots of your left over bits and pieces.  I used PVA on the frame, working piece by piece and ripping the paper as I went.  After each piece, I trimmed with a blade & continued to the next piece.  Once it was all covered, I let it dry and sanded off anything that looked a little rough.  Then the fun begins...

Gather your chippy stash and start inking, painting, distressing, embossing, flocking, and finally add a touch of metalic Gilding Wax (eg Rub n Buff).  Place them around your frame and you will have created a one-of-a-kind creation to treasure.
I have used:
CH227 Twinchie Overlay D
BD05 Scallop Border
CH347 Wearable Frames 2
CH329 Swallows
CH345 Petite 3D Butterflies
CH176 Small Abstract Tree
LB20 Small Flourish Corner
CH326 Gate Small
Mini Dragonfly & Mini Heart

Enjoy!

Trees, trees, who loves Trees?

There are so many trees to choose from in our range...whether it's a feature on a page you are looking for, or a small accent to fill in a space, there's a tree for you!

Lisa has used the Large Love Fern CH140 as a feature on her delightful Giraffe page.  She has spritzed the tree with Coffee Shop glimmermist, and layered flowers throughout to fill the canopy. The journal bit has been left raw, with the words coloured in dark brown marker and finished with a glaze.

JB09 - The Facts Journal Bit
CH140 - Love Fern Large

Georgia has used Naomi's new Stylized trees to create her layout on Eliza at SIX.  She has used NC02 Stylized Trees Large (center tree), NC03 Stylized Trees Small and a good old fav, CH195 Mini Grass.

Kim has used CH172 Stick Trees to create this stunning layout.  She has simply inked the chipboard and placed randomly punched circles (also inked) underneath to create the most gorgeous trees...totally effective!

Natalie has been inspired by Lou and created a layout about herself using Mini Trees (CH181).  She gave the trees a very light coat if Iridescent Memory Mist just to make them stand out over the dark grungy background. The Alphas are also misted using 2 different colours to match the dress pattern papers.

Lou has created this gorgeous layout using CH202 I {heart} you & CH142 Love Fern - Small.

Lou sprayed the tree with glimmermist then flipped it over to soak up the left over pooled mist, which leaves lovely patches of glimmer highlights.

Check back tomorrow for my project...

Hijacking hijacking hijacking

I am so sorry Louise I am hijacking the blog...

Cause these little houses are way too cute not to show you all. I made a couple the other night which are travelling off to a magazine and this one is completely different.

I have made a little thankyou gift for someone special by adapting the 'wisteria lane houses'.
And surprise, surprise I made the same mistake as last time.....not painting the inside of the house..(ooops next time)

If your in the Melbourne area I am going to teach these as a class for christmas decoration. So drop us a line if your interested. I love them.

Once again Lou I am sorry I hijacked the blog

cheers
love naomi x

More Scraware House Scene Creativity :)

Hello Hello Guys

Well Im now sharen the creative fun Ive been having with Scrapware's awesome Houses Chippboard [CH 105].

For my 'House Warming' card I have adhered the chipboard houses to my embossed card background and then given them and the card a 'white wash' paint effect.

For this Layout of the most gorgeous Miss Jessica, I have left the chipbard raw. To help blend/coordinate the chipbard houses and mini tree [NC o3] to the photo, which has a weather board wall background, I have used a peice of cork to bring the elements together.

Cheers and Happy Scrapware Scrapping!!
Oh and dont forget to come back on Friday to see some moooore Scrapware Chipbaord Goooodness!!
