more fun with frames..

Continuing on with 'frame' theme this week, I'd like to show you a different way of using this gorgeous CH380 Nadine Frame (medium)..

I've cut the frame in half in diagonal corners for a different effect..and the bonus is I'll have another half frame to use again soon :) To get the 'timber' look, I first inked in Tim Holtz Distress Ink (vintage photo) and then gave a coat of Modge Podge 'Matt-Mat' waterbased sealer.

For the title I've used AZ03 Impact Lowercase alpha and painted in white gesso, applied some green ink and done a rough outline in a white gel pen

The cute little flowers are MI09 Mini Flowers. I've coloured them with Tim Holtz Distress ink (mustard seed), then applied Ranger 'Diamond' Stickles for some sparkle..

shadow box gift..

Hi there, it's my turn to share a Mother's Day gift this time (luckily my Mum doesn't have internet!) I've used this KT61 mini shadow box and it's the perfect size to make a little piece of art without a huge amount of work involved.

To start with, I coated the whole shadow box with gesso and lined the back piece (inside) with some old book paper. I then 'white washed' the paper with some watered down gesso and a bit of white crackle paint here and there. I painted the insides of the frame with walnut ink and the outside of the box with Tim Holtz Distress Ink 'brushed corduroy'. Once dry I gave it a coat with Modge Podge 'matte-mat' waterbased sealer.

Next I put some hand-dyed muslin and lace around the photo and stuck it inside the frame with the sentiment. I've used a photobooth photo and word strips from Darkroom Door

I've used CH268 small vine to decorate the outside of the frame (cut into 2 sections) inking it in turquoise, applying some crackle paint, then tracing around the leaves with a white gel pen. A couple of different sized CH68 blossom flowers were painted white and used a script stamp in turquoise adding a brad/pearl and lace flower.

friendship....

is the theme this week and I'm here to share my layout using some gorgeous new chipboard from Scrapware.. I felt like scrapping something bright this time and just love the look of the raw chipboard with these bright colours..

The sweet leaves are the CH465 foliage small and CH464 foliage large. I've just added a simple stitch in a few of the leaves and attached a couple of bright paper flowers...

for the 'bff' in the title, I've coloured the AZ03 impact lowercase alphabet with some Autumn Leaves 'turquoise' ink.

it's vintage week...

Hi there, this week is all about 'vintage'..I don't know about you, but it's one of my favourite types of layouts to do lately! There are so many gorgeous Scrapware pieces which will add charm to you vintage creations.. For this layout of my father and his little dog, I've chosen to use the classic AZ08 Antique Lowercase alphas and MI20 Mini Apples - these are so sweet!

The apples were very quick and easy to do, just some Versacolor 'cardinal' red ink and a little 'pine cone' on the edges..

..and to age the letters I tried to pick up a few of the colours in the background paper; some more Versacolor in 'cyan' (a mid blue) 'bark' and 'burgundy', while leaving parts of the chipboard still raw. Then I drew a bit of an outline using a Pentel white gel pen.

I can't wait to see what vintage creations the rest of the girls are sharing this week, you can guarantee there'll be plenty of inspiration to come!!

card keeper..

Hi all, it's my turn to share a 'card keeper' with you.. They are such a great idea and make the perfect gift as well.. I ended up giving this one to my eldest daughter Rhi to store all of her special cards in, but now someone else is keen to have one too, so it looks like I'll be making another for Jem soon :)

I chose this lovely 3 window design to work with.. along with some of my favourite Scrapware chippies and a few other embellishments..

I've gone for a bit of a shabby chic look and painted the card keeper with some gesso, the texture of the chipboard was great to work with so I've actually left a little showing through the paint. I've added a few touches of old book paper and crackle paint and some sticky-backed plasterboard tape for texture.

The antique mini frame has been inked in turquoise and the centre piece of chipboard covered with old book paper and a light gesso wash before adding the date stickers..

The antique lowercase alpha were first painted in gesso, then inked with a charcoal colour, making it darker at the bottom. Once dry I gave them a coat of Ranger Glossy Accents..

My daughter's put just a few cards in so far, but there's plenty of room on the ring to add more cards through the year..

and finally, a close up showing the flowers, which were inked in red, with a Kaisercraft pearl in each centre..

and just before I go, I thought I'd share a simple card I made this week for my sister's birthday..

I've created the background using some gesso and layers of ink (Ranger Colour Wash) sprayed onto a non-stick craft sheet and spritzed with water. I've written 'happy birthday' in white pen over the background, added a die-cut strip and a couple of blossom flowers (can you tell how much I love these?) It's a fun design to do and very quick..I think the raw chipboard goes great against the busy background..

a sister's love..

Despite their nearly 3 year age gap, they have always been best friends and it makes me so happy to see them remain very close as they grow up...

I've painted all the chipboard pieces with gesso. The heart button was then inked with 'cardinal' Versa Color ink, and the mini bird, 'love' and basic heart with Autumn Leaves 'turquoise' with the edges finished with a little more cardinal ink.

A Christmas Layout..

I hope that you had a wonderful Christmas..if you're anything like me, you usually take several months to start scrapping those festive photos...well this time I've managed to start a bit earlier and it was fun to scrap a couple of my favourite snaps of my two girls taken at our house on Christmas Day...

For this layout I've used a few different Scrapware pieces:

AZ03 Impact Lowercase alphabet

CH57 Mini Flourish

MI12 Mini Stars

The mini flourishes and stars have simply been inked and I've drawn inside the stars with a white gel pen

The title letters have been inked and left slightly raw, this along with a white gel pen outline helped create a distressed effect. I've also overlapped the letters..

celebrate the wonder...

In keeping with the Christmas theme this week, I have a little Christmas picture to share with you... I'm calling it a picture rather than an ornament as it's probably a bit too big to hang on the tree but it would make a nice addition to the front door or elsewhere..

I've started off with an Ornate Frame large (CH159) and given it a coat of Golden iridescent stainless steel paint (one coat was enough) The word 'wonder' came from the Miracle/Perfect/Wonder set (WT06) and I've painted it with Ranger crackle paint in broken china

The next step was to back the frame with a Christmassy paper..I wanted this to be fairly soft so I whitewashed it with a little watered down gesso. Then I cut out some little trees and a reindeer from patterned paper and made a bit of a background for them to sit on with more pattered paper and lace... The Mini Stars (MI12) have been painted and inked then coated with some Ranger Stickles (frosted lace) for a bit of sparkle..

Before sticking down the 'wonder' I've gently curved it around for an extra effect (easy to do) and stuck it down along with the rest of my title.. I've then popped the trees, stars and little reindeer in place with some adhesive foam spots behind for added dimension..

To finish off I've punched a hole in the top of the frame (my Fiskars Eyelet Setter went through no probs), attached an eyelet and threaded some pretty ribbon through..and there you have it!

This weeks theme is Borders

This Week I have decided to create another Memory box - I just love the concept of these, I think they are brilliant!! I have used flowers this time - so out came some glitter, inks, wire and beads!!

I have used FL02 Flowers, BD10 Picket fence, CH08 Flower corner and of course a Memory box KT43 6x6. I used some Liquid Acrylic pearlescent ink to colour the chipboard - on the fence I heated it so it bubbled and on the flowers I added some ultra fine glitter and some gem stones. I also used some wire so I can hang this piece.

To colour the scalloped border I have first painted it with white gesso. Once the gesso was dry, I wiped over the border very lightly with a little Pewter Blue JW Metallic Wax on my finger. The Do Hicky is also painted first with white gesso and then painted with Snickerdoodle Smooch Ink.

I will be talking more about colouring with Smooch Inks in my Wednesday night Technique Post.

Beautiful layouts using borders by Natalie May

With such beautiful photos, Natalie has created an amazing layout!!

This is what Natalie used: CH335--Do-Hicky, gave it a coat of Chalk Glimmermist! and also used a word from WT06--miracle/perfect/wonder word trio, painted it in Glimmermist then used Distress Crackle Paint.

This layout was also made by Natalie May - its just gorgeous!! I love the colours of the ocean always makes for great photos!!

Spruce up your space with Scrapware...

Hi Everyone! Lisa Warren here and I'll be hosting the Scrapware blog this week.  Chipboard is not just for your scrapbook pages, and this week, the DT have created both functional and beautiful home decor pieces using Scrapware chipboard! The girls have outdone themselves. I think I might have to try these ideas myself. Enjoy!

First up, Natalie May..."This is a canvas I have created of Miss Jessica. I thought I'd give "Mixed Media" a whirl so I coated the canvas in gesso, added a layer of ripped book pages, added some texture paste, gave it a sprinkle of Micro Beads then painted it with Glimmermist and Making Memories paints! For the CH382 Natalie Frame Large, I painted it in gesso first, then gave it colour with a mixture of Glimmermist and paint then gave it a generous coat of Crackle Paint! The thin inside frame I covered with raw book pages. I think the final effect is great!"

Love the tonal effect on the flourish frame!

Next up, Renee Iveson...Renee has created a gorgeous mirror using the new CH365 Blossom Frame (new product) and CH67 Blossom Stem.

Renee let us know..."This project shows off what I love about Scrapware! You can ink it, sew it, cover it, mist it, grunge it, fold it and use it for a mask all in one project and the result is always fabo!!"

Next, Gina Rodgers...Gina has created a fun and fabulous blackboard!

"I've made this small blackboard for my daughter's room..and Jem's done a wonderful job helping me with the design (she's an owl lover like me) and choosing paint colours. For the board itself, I've used CH430 Nadine Hanging Large (new product)."

The cute owl is CH372 Joybells Owl and I've also used CH302 Skeleton Leaves small.  AZ08 Antique Lowecase Alphas have been used along with CH427 Mini Marilyn Blooms (new product, coming soon!).

Last, but certainly not least...Hetty Hall... who has created the most gorgeously girl and shabby chic shadow box and coordinating gift box...both of which are new products in the Scrapware collection.  KT62 - Mini Shadow Box Bracket and KT65 - 6x6" Box Kit, will both be released shortly!

The soft pinks and purples are just stunning...
