Memory Boxes

Firstly I would just like to say a huge 'thank you' to Ange for letting me be a part of this amazing team! There is so much talent amongst all these ladies it is quite daunting for me but at the same time I am soooo excited to be here!!

Ok here goes my first blog post for Scapware, hope you enjoy what I have to share!!

So I have used the 6x6 memory box KT43 - these are great and have endless possibilities. I have also used the CH30 small tree flourish, AZ08 & 07 alphabets and CH168 joined flourish.

I found the box quite easy to assemble with sticky tape and pva, Ange has posted really clear instructions here. Once it was dry and ready to go I painted the entire box with black acrylic along with the tree flourish (CH30) and the Loni joined flourish (CH168). I then added some German Scrap on the inside edge of the box.

I adhered a strip of torn cream/gold paper on the top of the box - randomly added a single layer of UTEE, heated it then highlighted it with the gilding wax. Once I added the joined flourish and the tree flourish (which happened to sit beautifully inside the box) I adhered the image, painted the word 'Cherish' in Crimson Lumiere and added a clear dimensional glaze to it. (Both flourishes were highlighted with gilding wax)

The 'glass' skeleton leaf was made by dipping a leaf into clear UTEE and I used a squashed bottle top with another image and some gold glass beads and finally topped it up with more clear UTEE.

Now some gorgeous artwork from Natalie.....

Natalie also made a beautiful Memory Box - she was very clever and made a Christmas in July theme!!

Nat has used a 6x6 kit KT43, Doves - flourish LN02 and some Poinsettias CS50. She inked, embossed and glossed these elements and I must say that the dove does look amazing and so rich in colour!

Natalie has also used wire and beads to hang the dove in the frame and the poinsettias finish off this piece very nicely with more beads to tie the whole theme together - just gorgeous Natalie...

Linda has also made a memory box to share with everyone.....

Linda has also made a memory box that is just divine!

On this piece Linda has used the KT44 10 x 10 memory box kit, CH167 large joined loni flourish, CH188 bird on a branch, CH191 large branch.

I love the texture of the background and the colours used, she has also included german scrap, some lace and has framed the piece with the bird, branches and some flowers with bling...

Gill has also made a beautiful contribution to our theme for this week -

Gill has used a 6 x 6 frame KT43 and one of the newly released frames.  She has covered the whole box in a pattern paper, then used Tim Holtz crackle paints on the edges. She made a birds nest out of old ribbon and lace for the birdy to sit on. Gill has also used vintage glass on the frame which was painted first and then finished the piece off with some mini roses.

I hope you have been inspired to try these memory boxes - I know I had a lot of fun making mine and have some more underway...

Have a great day

Grunge Chic

I'm not one to leave things flat and just add a lick of paint to it, for me things need to have a life to share, they need to be interesting...they need to scream potential, and the Scrapware Chandelier does just that. I took two large (CH278) Chandeliers and cut one in half...after I painted them I used PVA to stick them together...a good idea is to have a wire cake cooler to help stand the upright piece until the glue dries. I have used Viva Ferror paints on the chipboard and lots of bling in the form of Kindy Glitz and Kaisercraft gems.
I usually use the reverse side of the canvas but I thought what the heck, let's try something different and use the front! The front was painted black and I used a foam stamp and irridescent medium around the sides. My handy dandy Sharpie white paint pen was used to make dots and lines on the chipboard.
and what do we do with the other half of the chandelier?...

My play with Scrapware overlay...AKA Faux Scrapper

I began this piece with the initial idea that it was going to be a layout..."right", "sure" I hear you all say...because I'm NOT a scrapper...and so of course the mixed media artist in me kind off took over and...well it's not bad for a non LO...right?
The more I look at it the more I think I can add stuff...so one day I'll add some stained and tattered lace to the bottom of it and I'll hang the piece from a bead and wire wrapped twig. I'll most likely add more elements too in the form of charms...one day.
Anyhoo, are you wondering what I have used? I used the following Scrapware products:
CH226 Twinchie Overlay C, KT49 Bloom Brooch M&T kit, KT47 3D Butterfly kit, CH339 Do-Hicky 5, LB23 Bird Silhouette large, CH337 Do-Hicky 3...and shhh naughty me...those very clever-layered-pop up-type flowers in the corner are Scrapware...but sadly retired...but hey I just had to use them because they are wicked cool (as my teen son would say)...I'll wait paitently for the boss lady to email or phone me to growl for using them hehe.
Want to know a secret about this piece? Of course you do! Ok!...the bird, the large bloom at the top right corner and the butterfly are all wearable brooches that are easily removed to be used as a divine and unique accessory and you just put them back when you are done with them...is that a great gift idea or what?!
Think out side the box...or in this case the layout.

Scrapware Overlays

I love the versatillity of an overlay and I have had a great deal of fun using the Minichies, Inchies and Twinchies in the past. The Minchies make super interesting wearable pieces and are small enough to be posted as an art swap. Our True Inchies are perfect for a wall hanging and one of my favorite mixed media substrates. In fact I am currently teaching a Vintage Inchie frame (True Inchie B CH221) at a local scrapbook store here in Sydney. The larger Twinchie overlay can be used as an abstract photo frame...I will be posting my version tomorrow...so watch this space!

The Design Team created the following inspirational pieces...
Our lovely boss lady Ange Connolly used the following items to create her charming piece:
CH227 Twinchie Overlay D, CH326 Gate (part of), CH175 Med Abstract Tree, BD05 Scalloped Border, CH347 Wearable Frames 2, CH324 Antique Mini Frames, CH329 Swallows, CH345 Petite 3D Butterflies & a mini dragonfly and heart

Gillian Lester has a wonderful flair for use of textiles and incorporated the following products to complete this page starring the cutie pie "Milly Moo".
CH227 Twinchie Overlay D and CH324 Antique Mini Frames, Gilly also used Vintage glass glitter on the little oval frames to give them more "bling bling"

Lisa Warren brings beauty to simplicity by combining the following products...KD10 KDD Plant Frame 6"CH329 Swallows, WT08 "faith/hope/love" word trio. I adore the colour combination of red and blue!

It looks like Natalie has stamped over the frame with a versamark pad to give a slight pattern. The following items were used to create this sweet piece:
True Inchie B (CH221), Live/Laugh/Love word trio (W209) & Mini Heart
