Texture paste, chipboard and other goodies

A while back I set myself a challenge to get arty on
a layout. Usually I’m a product driven scrapper and I tend to keep it pretty
neat and tidy. But, on this occasion I broke out the texture paste, paint, ink,
glitter, rhinestones, sequins, muslin, lace, dimensional magic and had a bit of fun.

This layout just appeared in Creating Keepsakes Issue 13 No 12 (Aust edition). And I wanted to share with you a little bit about how I created it.

OK, to start the layout off, I chose a pale blue distressed cardstock for the
backdrop. I got out a butter knife from the cutlery drawer and used it to
slather some texture paste onto the bottom section of the layout. I just slapped
it around roughly so that it lay in peaks and troughs. Once it was applied, I
tore up some strips of muslin and chopped up some lace, and laid the pieces over the top of bits of the texture paste. Then I threw a bit of silver glitter over the top of it all. It was all a bit slap dash and random. I was quite happy with a messy fun look.

Next, I painted the frame with silver acrylic paint and scraped some texture paint around the very edges of the scallops, to resemble snow caught on a window ledge. Once the paint and texture paste had dried, I ran over the edges with a thick layer of Kindy Glitz. You can see the finished effect in the picture above.

I painted a tree with brown paint and that was that. LOL, the easiest part of the layout :)

I painted a fence white, then found it was too big for my page. No problem. I cut it in two and used one bit on one side of the layout and the other bit on the other. To age the fence, I sanded back
the edges and then sponged some brown distress ink over them, concentrating the
ink more on the lower edges of the fence.

The title is some Scrapware chipboard letters that have been painted white and then given a couple of coats of Dimensional Magic
to give them a glossy, frozen effect.

To finish off the wintery look, I’ve added some fragile
white blossoms, clear rhinestones and pearly sequins.

Scrapware chipboard and wood products are fantastic for projects like
this where you're using texture paste, paints and other media. They are
able to withstand painting and slathering with paste without buckling
or distorting. So you can create with confidence.
